About Us

Our Mission: We use the beauty of fractals to inspire interest in Science, Math and Art.

Our vision is for a world of wonder and curiosity, a culture of scientific inquiry, an appreciation of the interconnections of natural systems and an understanding of their essential nonlinearity. We see a world where everyone is mathematically literate and has a grasp of how math is a powerful tool to help turn their visions into reality.

We are out to change the culture. We have enough sports heroes and movie stars. What we need are some science heroes, and some math stars. We’re using large-scale public art to advertise the beauty of math and science, and to showcase the creativity and intelligence of our students.

History: The Fractal Foundation was formed in 2003, as an outgrowth of the Albuquerque based “Chaos Club”. Since then, we have taught fractals to over 24,000 children and 15,000 adults. Based in Albuquerque, most of our activities have thus far taken place in New Mexico, but they continue to spiral outward and upward…

I’m not sure exactly what I expected when I clicked to read your vision/mission/history, but I find your lovely touch of humour almost shockingly refreshing! Yes, we have enough sports heroes and movie stars! We need some science heroes and math stars! God bless you, Fractal Foundation people! Carry on your beautiful, inspired work… May it joyously “continue to spiral outward and upward”!

This is great! (I live in ABQ, but the link to your site was sent to me by a friend in Indiana, of all places.) I am interested in being able to write some code to make graphics on the (PC) screen, and so see how it all works. Fractals are the most amazing things since they discovered gravity and everything fell down!
