Our Mission: We use the beauty of fractals to inspire interest in Science, Math and Art.
Our vision is for a world of wonder and curiosity, a culture of scientific inquiry, an appreciation of the interconnections of natural systems and an understanding of their essential nonlinearity. We see a world where everyone is mathematically literate and has a grasp of how math is a powerful tool to help turn their visions into reality.
We are out to change the culture. We have enough sports heroes and movie stars. What we need are some science heroes, and some math stars. We’re using large-scale public art to advertise the beauty of math and science, and to showcase the creativity and intelligence of our students.
History: The Fractal Foundation was formed in 2003, as an outgrowth of the Albuquerque based “Chaos Club”. Since then, we have taught fractals to over 24,000 children and 15,000 adults. Based in Albuquerque, most of our activities have thus far taken place in New Mexico, but they continue to spiral outward and upward…

Super. Must give this to my kid (now going for an EE. He loves math)
Dear Friends,
After stumbling onto a NOVA’s “Hunting the Hidden Dimension”, I was completely blown away by the history - Georg Cantor, Julia, Mandelbrot, for example - and especially by the elegance and hyperbeauty of fractals themselves. The idea that fractals are fundamentally descriptive of Nature leads one into deep reflection.
Then, most fortuitously, I found your website. As I began to experiment with the first program on your list last night, Xaos, I soon experienced waves of intuitive rapport with something fundamental within myself, a subjective phenomenon I can’t rightly put into words.
The end result is (1) fractal science will be of considerable aid to my thesis on consciousness, and (2) you have me permanently hooked on fractals. I look forward to moving up from an old 15″ Mac PowerBook to the largest iMac I can get my hands on! When I’m able, I’ll certainly support your project in any way I can.
Most Sincerely,
Tom Nofziger
