Fractals are SMART: Science, Math and Art!

Julie Tyrrell

julie-1Julianne Tyrrell is our New Mexico Fractal Education Director. Julie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (aka New Mexico Tech). Julie’s degree and work as an Environmental Engineer provided a strong foundation for teaching for the past 15 years including teaching middle school science and honors pre-algebra and algebra.

A New Mexico Hispanic native, Julie has been a leader for an Albuquerque area local chapter of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, an international youth service-learning program. As part of this group, Julie continues to utilize her environmental science background to foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and to inspire students to take action to make the world a better place for people, other animals, and the environment, especially in Albuquerque’s local ecosystem of the Rio Grande Valley.

julie-2Joining the Fractal Foundation in the spring of 2018, Julie realized that she had been teaching kids about fractals in science and math for years without using the actual term ‘fractals.’ Julie now sees fractals all around her and her kids and family have given her the nickname, Mrs. Julie, the ‘freducator’. Julie provides fractal outreach across the State of New Mexico to students and adults of all ages. Contact her to come visit your school, center or organization!
