This is an innovative and collaborative professional development program for elementary and middle school teachers who want to:
- Learn and share best practices to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math
- Develop fluency delivering lessons grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards
- Gain tools, strategies, and relevant interdisciplinary lessons and resources
- Become part of a supportive learning community
What is STEAM? – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
What is ECHO? – Project ECHO is an innovative “tele-mentoring” program that uses regularly scheduled video conferencing sessions to bring teachers together with an interdisciplinary panel of experts to share emerging best practices and provide mentoring around the real issues and challenges they encounter.
What did we do? – We recently completed our second series of a 12 session professional development project adapting the ECHO model with elementary and middle school teachers – and we are extremely excited by the results! Each session has a teacher deliver a STEAM lesson to the group, who share feedback structured within the NGSS standards. Teachers gained proficiency, built a learning community, and preferred the approach to traditional professional development.
